This time I’ve got a recipe for you. People ask me about what are the typical food of the United States. It’s a hard question, as the United States is a big mix of other cultures. When I am in the supermarket and see products labelled as «american cookies» I soon realize that a snack I thought was so basic, isn’t typical here in Europe. While I’m not able to bake enough cookies for everyone, here is a recipe for oatmeal raisin cookies if you’d like to try baking some at home.
INGREDIENTS
1 Cup of softened butter
1 Cup of white sugar
1 Cup of brown sugar
2 eggs
2 Cups of Flour
1 teaspoon of baking soda
1 teaspoon of salt
1,5 teaspoons of ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon of vanilla sugar
3 Cups of quick cooking oats
1 Cup of raisins
DIRECTIONS
Cream (mix) together butter, sugars. Beat in eggs. Stir in Vanilla. Combine dry ingredients. Add dry ingredients to mixture. Mix in oats. Add raisins. Chill for 1 hour. Bake 8-10 minutes at 375 F (190 C).
As you may have noticed, we cook/bake by volume and not by weight. There are many things in Europe that I prefer over the USA, but I think the American way of cooking/baking by volume is much easier.
I hope you enjoy the cookies, and all the best!
