Since it is going to be part of one lesson, here is the lyrics of one of the most beautiful and famous songs by Elvis Presley.
And you can have it translated here.
Los sabios dicen
que solo los tontos se enamoran tan rápido
pero no puedo evitar el enamorarme de ti
¿Debería de quedarme… ?
¿Sería ser un pecado
si no puedo evitar enamorarme de ti?
Como un río que fluye al mar
amor, así es mi amor
algunas cosas están destinadas a pasar.
Toma mi mano, toma toda mi vida también
porque no puedo evitar enamorarme de ti
Como un río que fluye al mar
amor, así es mi amor
algunas cosas están destinadas a pasar.
Toma mi mano, toma toda mi vida también
porque no puedo evitar enamorarme de ti
porque no puedo evitar enamorarme de ti.

I’m sure you’ve heard about the old mean Mr. Scrooge, the man who received the visit of the three Christmas Ghosts.
«A Christmas Carol» was written by Charles Dickens and it was published in 1843.
From this moment, it became extremely popular and it was adapted to thetre, tv and cinema. The latest pf this adaptations was the one directed by Zemeckis in 2009 and starring Jim Carey.
Now, it is a good time to read the original work. This is one of those «novellas» (a short novel) which become so popular in TV and cinema that we forget to read the original work.
However. you will be amazed by Dickens´ use of descriptions, dialogues, atmospheres and drama. This is a tale about magic, forgiveness, hope and kindness (with a certain taste of «horror» too!).
When I was in high school, my French teacher would bring a «chanson de la semaine» to class. We would listen to the song and try to understand and discuss the lyrics. I remember enjoying this part of class when I was a student, so now I will try and bring the «song of the week» to the Felipe II blog.
Since Christmas is near, I chose a Christmas song. I tried to pick one that you would not normally hear in Mercadona or in Spain, but is still popular in the United States. The title is ¨Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer.» I hope you enjoy it and find the lyrcis entertaining.
Here are the lyrics in English and translated into Spanish:

and the song on YouTube:
Some say that you haven’t really visited a country until you visit the supermarket. In the USA, I am used to seeing many items on sale every week. Often times these sales are for 20%, 30%, 50%, or even 70% off the original price! While in Spain, I have noticed «oferta» signs in El Arbol, Mercadona, etc… However, the spanish «oferta» is much different than the american sale. This photo (taken in El Arbol) shows what I am talking about…
Normal price for the bag of pasta: 0.79 euros
«Oferta» price? …. 0.99 euros…
And this is not the only time I have seen something like this. Maybe it is because I am a foreigner, but I am amazed that an «oferta» sometimes makes the price higher! As a consumer, I am insulted.
Shoppers beware, and always check behind the spanish «oferta» sign…

As you know, Thursday, November 24 was Thanksgiving (Accion de Gracias) in the United States. It is one of the most important holidays in the USA, and is always celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November.
The first Thanksgiving was celebrated by Pilgrims (who were new to America) and Indians (native Americans) in Plymouth, Massachusetts during the autumn of 1621. The Pilgrims wanted to say «thank you» to the Indians who had helped them learn how to grow crops in «the new world.» It was not until 1863 that president Abraham Lincoln declared Thanksgiving a national holiday.
Today the two most typical things associated with Thanksgiving are turkey and football. On this day, families come together for a big dinner. This is similar to how many families celebrate Christmas. The main course at Thanksgiving dinner is the stuffed turkey.
In addition, there are always american football games on tv. Normally, people eat a large dinner at about 2:00pm and then watch football on tv while spending time with family. When I was in the USA, I often played football with my friends as well. As a result of one football match, I needed surgery. But that is another story…
